Human Wildlife Conflicts Resolutions

Crop raiding by wildlife (mainly primates) and illegal cattle grazing remain key issues that undermine the conservation of Gishwati Forest and create conflicts with local farmers. Forest of Hope works with local farmers who own plots adjacent to the Gishwati forest to mitigate crop raiding and reduce illegal activities within the forest. We organize meetings with farmers to discuss how they can reinforce fences around their ranches to prohibit cows infringement on the forest and support the adoption of alternative seeds of plant that are not raided by primates. Forest of Hope also advocates for the farmers in the process of claiming compensation for damages incurred by the park fauna.
